Welcome to the Official website for Winchcombe Town CouncilWe hope that you find the site both helpful and informative. Winchcombe Town today has a population of about 5,000, and nestles in a steep sided valley in the heart of the Cotswolds, close to Cleeve Hill. It has a very long history, having been established about 1,000 years ago, and in the Middle Ages was in the centre of an important wool producing area. This history has left a rich legacy, and there is much to see and enjoy in the area. |

The magnificent surrounding countryside is of national importance, being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Special Landscape Area. This, and the attractiveness of the Town itself, has made Winchcombe a very desirable place to live, and a tourist attraction in its own right. Being close to the beautiful Sudeley Castle, with its colourful history and magnificent grounds, further enhances this natural attraction. Winchcombe has a busy shopping centre catering for every-day needs, as well as specialist shops offering high quality merchandise. There are several good hostelries serving fine wines and beers with mouth-watering pub food, as well as top quality Michelin-rated restaurants. Local B&Bs provide welcome rest for the weary traveller. The people of Winchcombe are friendly and warm-hearted, and you will find a very warm welcome should you decide to visit. |
